Progress not Perfection

Tonight I was very fortunate to hear Justice Sonya Sotomayor speak at the AAUW (American Association of University Women) national convention. She spoke a bit on perfection and the concept of perfection. I felt so inspired by her words and believe they relate not only to what I experience on a daily basis but probably what many of us experience and struggle with: striving for perfection, that very often keeps us from taking the first step forward, and leaves us feeling overwhelmed and underachieved if we don’t hit the mark. Remember that no one and nothing is PERFECT. Life is not perfect, and be grateful for that because what we gain from the imperfections is truly priceless. Life is about taking small steps on a daily basis to better ourselves and the world. Each small step is a success, weather it is choosing to drink water instead of a soda, or to walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Don’t wait to start making healthier choices because you want to do things perfectly or you fear you can’t do them perfectly, take that step towards a healthier life today! Your health will be better for it and you will have made progress!
