Upleveling: What is it, and how do you get started

Today I want to talk to you about upleveling in your life. You may have heard the term upleveling at some point and wondered what this means exactly… 

As Defined by The Free Dictionary:
uplevel
slang To make progress or improve in a specific skill or area of one’s life.
“I started taking an online course to help uplevel my word-processing skills.”

To give a more clear description, up-leveling occurs when you become energetically in alignment with a higher frequency of existence. This often occurs internally first, and then your external environment shifts to meet that higher frequency. Because the universe likes resonance, the law of attraction will draw all that is in alignment with your new frequency into your life. Get ready to step into the new frequency of you externally. This can happen in any area of your life: health, business, relationships, finance, spirituality, you name it. This could mean getting a large promotion, buying your first home, or moving up in a relationship from something that’s self-sabotaging or abusive to something that’s nourishing. It can be upleveling your surroundings and the people that you keep in your life. I want to talk about this today because I believe there are certain pathways to upleveling that you have access to and can start with now to help you move out of the space of things that are no longer in alignment with your highest good. 

The first thing is nutrition and self-care. I bring this up because I work with clients usually in 6-month programs, and when we work together our goals are always focused around improving the individual’s physical health. So we start with nutritional changes, supplementation, removing toxic foods, removing things that create inflammation, and removing drugs (including caffeine, alcohol, sometimes tobacco or nicotine). What happens is the individual starts to come out of a fog because things that generate inflammation in our body fog our brains, and they keep us at a lower frequency. Eating low frequency foods and not caring for our bodies puts us into a lower frequency state. Just by the nature of changing the foods that you eat, your brain will start to see, hear, and experience things in a new and different way. As your physical frequency starts to shift, so does the interaction with those around you. This is where things can become challenging, because your surroundings are the same..but you’re becoming different. You’re changing. The frequency of your cells are actually increasing: they can vibrate at a higher level and detoxify and replicate more effectively. They can spit out toxins more easily and rehydrate more easily and undergo apoptosis, which is the healthy form of cell death. Apoptosis is programmed cell death. When it’s time for the cell to stop functioning and shut down, it will do so through a healthy contained process, which then prevents cellular toxicity from floating around in your bloodstream, or prevents cells from going rogue which is what we see as cancer. So now imagine after a couple of months of making healthier choices, of choosing cleaner eating, of taking supplementation to support the digestive system in healing, to support releasing toxicity from the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, the lungs, taking supplements that reduce the inflammation in your body and help you get over the hump. Now you experience a greater sense of freedom in your body and a greater sense of energy. Your mind becomes clearer and you can make decisions more effectively. You’re choosing you which builds your confidence. Every choice makes a difference. For example, if you’re going to a fast food place – not ordering the double cheeseburger and large fries but ordering one single cheeseburger and a small fry. Let’s say it’s that choice! That’s still a better choice for you, and you know when you make that choice that you’re making it for you. You may not feel amazing after that, but you will feel better than if you had gotten the milkshake, the double double, and the extra large fry. So that’s one way to start upleveling, because as the frequency of your body changes, you then begin to change on a cellular, fundamental level, and the vibrations of those around you now must raise to meet your frequency. If they aren’t in alignment with your frequency, they will fall away. This is where it can be very challenging and difficult for people, because this is where the real change happens in your life. Your surroundings, where you’re living, where you’re working, who you’re working with, your relationships, your partner. It could be the interaction with your children. Anything that’s in your close vibrational sphere is now going to meet you at a different frequency, and this brings about change. Change is where our ego struggles to exist. Our ego says “no, no, wait a minute, this is how it’s been! Why are my interactions changing outside of me? Why do I walk into a room and not feel like I’m a part of this group anymore? Why do I feel out of alignment with my work? With my home?” The change could be any one of these things or it could be all of them. Just know that it’s a good thing even though it may be challenging and it will require attention, and it will require the space around you to change in order to match your frequency. If it doesn’t, it will need to fall away otherwise it will suck you back down. 

The second way to begin the upleveling process is through meditation. Meditation is a meeting of you as you know yourself in this world. The physical body and the ego with you, the Higher Self. The subconscious mind, the soul, the part of you that is directly connected to the greater universe and to the power beyond that which you can conceive, but you are connected to. It is within you, all of it. I want to share with you a couple of quotes to help inspire this understanding.

“The whole universe is contained within a single human being, YOU.” – this is a quote by Rumi, who is our featured poet in this month’s newsletter. 

“The Universe is the creation of the mind. Universe exists inside the mind as the flower exists inside the seed.” – Amit Ray, Indian author and spiritual master. 

“Everything you’ll ever need to know is within you. The secrets of the Universe are imprinted on the cells of your body.” – Dan Millman, author of The Peaceful Warrior, one of my favorite books. 

So the universe exists within us as much as we exist within the universe. The frequency in which we exist dictates the frequency of that which we attract. So when we begin to meditate, we start to meet with this other aspect of ourselves, our Higher Self, and universal knowledge. This part of ourselves is hidden by distraction. Distraction could be anything from television, our phones, community and being with others too much and not having any alone time, the news, anything in life that has to do with external attention. When you meditate, the attention goes inward, and you now get to become one with that internal energy and knowing that is connected to the all knowing. You get to be in a space of connection, communion, acknowledgement, peace, and awareness. Now you might say, “oh gosh I can’t meditate. It’s too difficult, I’m uncomfortable, I can’t sit still, I can’t be silent.” That just means you need to start meditating in a different way and gradually work your way into a sitting silent meditation. So start with walking meditation. Start with folding laundry meditation! I have a client who finds their meditative space in folding laundry. You may need to be guided and start with guided meditation, something that holds your attention and keeps you present and guides you into the spaces that you haven’t been. Slowly but surely with dedication to this space and to this meeting time with your higher self, you will become more and more comfortable and capable of showing up and dropping in. Dropping into the frequency of connection with yourself. This is where all the answers come from, the infinite knowledge of the universe rests inside of you. Whenever you say, “I don’t know how to do that, I don’t know how I feel, I don’t know what I like, I don’t know what I want”.. none of that is true. You do know. So imagine stepping into that space daily for 10 minutes. Imagine what that will start to do to your frequency. It will start to raise your frequency! Once again, as this happens things will start to change around you. If there’s something going on externally in your life that you aren’t happy with, meditate, seek awareness, and allow it to flow through you. Don’t let it get stuck, whatever it is…feelings, emotions, thoughts. Drop into that space, focus on the feelings that you want to have. Ultimately the complete feeling of peace is no feeling at all, it’s just BEING. And when you can just be, that opens up space externally for the resistance and the struggle to melt away, subside, move on, whatever it is that needs to go. Upleveling because of the change can be scary. It can also be scary because new greater things come into your life and you may start to question, “do I deserve this? Am I worthy? I’ve never had anything this wonderful before”, and that can be our greatest enemy in upleveling. So I encourage you in those moments to trust that you are held, to understand that the universe supports itself in natural flow, nothing needs to be difficult or hard. Just by the simple truth of your existence here on this planet, you are deserving of all the love and light the universe has to offer. Why wouldn’t you be? You’re a part of nature. You’re a being made up of energy and light, just like the trees, just like the plants, the sky, the ocean, the animals on our planet. So I highly recommend that you begin with a nutritional upgrade and a meditation practice if you are ready to reach the next level in your spiritual and physical journey on this planet. If you’re not and you’re happy with where you are, just keep doing things the same, but don’t expect anything to change. Change externally will come with the changes that you incite inside of you.
